LEBANON, Maine — A teenage boy escaped major injury early Monday morning when the vehicle he was driving slid on icy roads and struck a telephone pole, according to officials.
The 16-year-old driver, from Acton, was traveling along Milton Mills Road when he lost control of his vehicle, Lebanon Rescue Chief Samantha Cole said.
The teen’s Volvo snapped the utility pole at the base of the pole, Cole said. The driver lost control on the slippery road and spun out, hitting the pole on the passenger’s side of the car.
The driver suffered minor injuries but did not require a trip to the hospital, Cole said. The teen, who was alone in the vehicle, was wearing his seat belt.
Cole said the road became icy after Sunday’s snowstorm dumped more than a foot of snow across the state. The teen’s Volvo was demolished.
