Truck crashes into pole, cutting power to Rockland residents

By Dawn Gagnon and Stephen Betts, BDN Staff

ROCKLAND, Maine — The lights were out in much of Rockland on Friday night after a pickup truck struck a utility pole with a transformer on it on Camden Street.

The crash, which happened shortly after 7 p.m. near the intersection with Front Street, left the pickup truck teetering on the edge of a steep embankment. The truck was being held up by a single tree.

Despite live electrical wires nearby, the truck’s driver got herself out of the vehicle and was being checked out by emergency medical personnel in an ambulance at the scene.

The accident knocked out power to nearly 670 Central Maine Power customers, according to the utility’s outage map.
