RIPLEY – Norma J. Brawn Robinson, 79, passed away Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, while singing Christmas carols with her friends in Harmony. She was born Aug. 24, 1934, in Dexter, the daughter of Norman A. and Leona M. (Seavey) Brawn.

Norma graduated from N.H. Fay High School in Dexter in 1952 and wed her high school sweetheart, H. Kenneth Robinson of Ripley, the following year on June 21, 1953, at the Dexter Methodist Church. Together, Norma and Ken would share 60 years of loving memories.

Ten days after their wedding, Ken deployed with the U.S. Air Force, heading to California and eventually to Alaska. The newlyweds would not see each other again for 18 months, when they reunited in Maine and drove her black Pontiac to Oklahoma, where their daughter was born.

In 1957 Ken and Norma returned to Maine, where she took a job with the Hatch Agency, which eventually became the Blackwell Insurance Agency. She served as a capable secretary at Blackwell’s until her retirement in 1998.

Active in her community, Norma was a fixture at local sporting events and a member of her Extension group, Christmas Club, and the Christian Community Church.

She is survived by her husband, Ken; her daughter, Rhonda E. Roberts and son-in-law, Omar, of Ripley; and her son, David K. Robinson and daughter-in-law, Florence, of St. Albans. She is surrounded by a large, loving and growing family, including grandchildren, Gavin and Agnes Robinson, Benjamin, Kirk, Steven and Denise Robinson; stepgrandchildren, Allen, Allie and Alex Kimball; and her great-grandchildren, Morgan, Owen, Phoebe and Fiona Robinson.

A faithful Christian, devoted wife, nurturing mother and generous grandmother, Norma, like the butterflies she so adored, went wherever she pleased and pleased wherever she went. She will be remembered by her many friends and family for her gracious smile, keen wit and happy spirit.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Ken’s home in Ripley. Norma’s church will hold a service on Sunday, Dec. 15, at the Seventh-day Adventist Church on Spring Street in Dexter.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make donations in Norma’s memory to Sarah’s House, P.O. Box 931, Bangor, ME 04402-0931.

Arrangements under the care and direction of Dan & Scott’s Cremation & Funeral Service, 445 Waterville Road, Skowhegan, Maine 04976.
