INDIAN TOWNSHIP, Maine — An Indian Township woman was struck and killed in her driveway Wednesday by a semi-trailer truck driven by her husband, police reported Thursday.
“At this point we believe all the evidence points to an accidental death,” Indian Township Police Chief Alexander Nicholas said Thursday.
Jessie R. Walton, 30, was dead when officers arrived, he said. Police were summoned at 5:10 p.m. Wednesday to the Walton home on Bobcat Avenue near Indian Township School.
Walton’s husband, Jason, 35, was driving off in a Peterbilt truck with no trailer attached, and she was pursuing him down the driveway and attempting to get him to stop, said Nicholas.
At the end of the driveway, she was struck and run over by the rear wheels, suffering severe trauma to the head and upper torso, reported Nicholas. Jason Walton immediately stopped the vehicle, the police chief said.
The husband told police that the couple was having a verbal disagreement just before he left the home, according to Nicholas.
It is not clear why she was chasing the truck.
The accident remains under investigation, Nicholas said.
“We’re still talking to possible witnesses,” said Nicholas, who was being assisted by members of the Maine State Police and Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
