BATH, Maine — Bath police are investigating a report that a man in a van attempted to grab a 12-year-old boy and pull him into the vehicle Wednesday afternoon.

The incident occurred at approximately 3 p.m., according to a Bath Police Department release.

The boy told police he was walking on Middle Street when the driver of a “newer model” van reached out of the vehicle, grabbed his arm and attempted to pull him inside the van.

The boy told police he freed himself from the man’s grasp and fled to his residence.

Police describe the alleged abductor as being about 5 feet, 9 inches tall, 40 years old, bald with a long beard. He was wearing ripped jeans and a gray shirt.

The boy could not identify the make of the van, but described it as being “grayish-green” with a broken antenna. It was last seen traveling north on Middle Street.
