LEBANON, Maine — The man struck by an SUV on Milton Mills Road last week succumbed to his injuries Monday.
Ryan Kelley dies at Maine Medical Center after being placed on life support last week due to the serious injuries he sustained in the car-pedestrian accident.
Assistant Rescue Chief Jason Cole said Kelley was well-known and liked throughout the community.
“His unselfishness shows because he had requested if anything ever happened to him that his organs be donated. Now many other people will continue to live thanks to his donation,” Cole said in a news release Monday night. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends during this very difficult time and also to the driver of the car who understandably is heartbroken.”
Police said that Kelley was struck by a Toyota Rav4 in the accident, which occurred in the area of 339 Milton Mills Road in North Lebanon last Monday just before 5 p.m.
Medflights were requested, but unable to respond due to weather, according to Cole, so Kelley was transported from the scene to Goodall Hospital in Sanford before being transported to Maine Medical Center.
As a result of the accident, the portion of Milton Mills Road between Keay Road and the Acton town line was closed to traffic for more than three hours as state troopers worked to reconstruct the accident.
It is unclear if any charges will occur as a result of the accident. Officials could not be reached Monday night for further comment on the incident.
