Snowy weather on Tuesday evening to cause slippery roads in southern, western Maine

By Dawn Gagnon, BDN Staff

BANGOR, Maine — Although winter driving conditions improved during the day Tuesday, the National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for parts of York and Cumberland counties this evening.

A dusting of up to an inch of snow is expected to fall into early evening, the National Weather Service’s office in Gray predicts. That could cause roads to become slick, especially during the early evening commute, forecasters said.

At the request of the Maine State Police, the Maine Department of Transportation reduced the speed limit on the entire length of the Maine Turnpike to 45 mph shortly before 4 p.m.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service issued a warning for the Gulf of Maine and small craft advisories for coastal Maine through Thursday morning.
