ORONO, Maine — A University of Maine student is facing charges after he allegedly assaulted a campus police officer Friday night.

Ryan Camp, 18, was initially questioned by an officer after he was found in possession of liquor, according to UMaine spokeswoman Margaret Nagle.

The officer was originally going to give Camp a summons for illegally possessing the alcohol, the spokeswoman said, but he refused to cooperate and attacked the officer.

Nagle would not go into details about the assault, only saying the officer suffered minor scrapes and bruises.

Camp was arrested and charged with assault on a police officer, a Class C felony, possession of liquor by a minor and refusing to submit to arrest, Nagle said.
