Police: Bangor man concealed knife in pants pocket after theft

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

BANGOR, Maine — A Lincoln man accused of felony theft is also facing a charge of carrying a concealed weapon after police found a knife during a search, police said.

The series of events leading to the arrest of Christopher Goehringer, 31, began shortly before 11:30 a.m. Dec. 2, Bangor police Sgt. Cathy Rumsey said.

Loss prevention staff at Kohl’s had contacted police when Goehringer allegedly left the store with an unpaid pair of pants, Rumsey said.

Upon being searched, a tactical knife was found in his pocket, Rumsey said. Goehringer had apparently been wearing the stolen athletic pants underneath his jeans.

After Goehringer was brought to Penobscot County Jail, he tried to hide the pants in the changing room at the facility after being allowed to take off the pilfered pants, Rumsey said.

He was charged with theft, a Class C felony due to prior convictions, carrying a concealed weapon and falsifying physical evidence.
