Judith A. Hobbs

GOFFSTOWN, N.H. – Judith A. (Bjorn) Hobbs, 75, passed away in Bedford, N.H., on Dec. 6, 2013, at the Arbors of Bedford after a courageous 10 year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born Aug. 11, 1938, in Portland, to Thomas and Ruth (Dwyer) Bjorn and raised at Falmouth Foreside.

She raised her family in Hampden and moved to Derry, N.H., upon retirement. Her final years before her illness were spent in Hope. She attended Falmouth High School and was a 1960 graduate of the University of Maine at Orono. She taught at the McGraw Elementary School in Hampden for 15 years from 1968 to 1983. She also taught in Bradley and Greenbush. She was a well-known high school basketball player in Falmouth. She enjoyed genealogy, gardening, the outdoors and basketball. She especially enjoyed her time with her grandchildren.

She was married to Harville “Elston” Hobbs for 45 years. Elston passed away in 2005. Surviving is a daughter, Michelle H. McBride of Manchester, N.H.; a son, Steven T. Hobbs and his wife, Jennifer, of Goffstown, N.H.; six grandchildren, James J. McBride, Sean T. McBride, both of Hudson, Fla., Christopher T. Hobbs of Glenburn, Emily J. Taber, Colby T. Hobbs and Zachary A. Hobbs, all of Goffstown, N.H.; a brother, Richard Bjorn and his wife, Judith, of Farmington; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Calling hours are 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, at Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St., Manchester, N.H. The funeral is 1 p.m. Friday, at John Street United Methodist Church, 98 John St., Camden. The Rev. Peg Moser will officiate. Committal prayers will follow at LaSalle Cemetery, Searsmont.
