LEWISTON — The Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout for high school baseball players ages 14-18 will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, at Merrill Gymnasium. The tryout for pre-high school athletes ages 12-14 will be held at 1 p.m. also Sunday, Dec. 15, at Merrill Gymnasium. The registration fee for each event is $99. GORHAM — Holiday baseball clinic with University of Southern Maine Huskies head coach Ed Flaherty, USM baseball staff and Ryan Flaherty of Baltimore Orioles, 9 a.m.-noon Friday, Dec. 27, at Costello Sports Complex, for players in grades three-12. Players will be divided by grade level. Cost is $50.


BANGOR — The Elks National Hoop Shoot Free-Throw Contest will be held at the district level at 10 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 15, at the Doughty School. BANGOR — Bangor Parks and Recreation is accepting registrations for its eight-week Youth Basketball Program open to all children in grades two and three, with Saturday games beginning week of of Dec. 14. One practice per week. Boys and girls leagues. Residents’ fee is $35; and non-residents, $45. BANGOR — MAC Winter Men’s League has extended its entry fee/roster deadline to Friday, Dec. 20. The league will start on Sunday, Dec. 29, at Penobscot Job Corps Academy. BREWER — Brewer Parks & Recreation Department is accepting registrations for Peew Instructional Basketball Program to begin for Dec. 2 for seven weeks. Grades one and two will meet 4-5 p.m. Mondays; and kindergarten-grade one will meet 4-5 p.m Wednesdays. First-graders may choose either a Monday or Wednesday class. This is an instructional program designed to teach basic basketball fundamentals through fun games and skills in a positive environment. The fee is $30 for Brewer residents and $35 for non-residents. FORT KENT — The University of Maine at Fort Kent Athletics will offer a Winter Basketball Clinic. The Bengal Basketball Cubs clinic is open to grades Pre-K through grades 12 and will be held 9:30-10:30 a.m. Dec. 21 and 28, Jan. 4, Feb. 1, 8, 15 and 22, at UMFK Sports Center. The clinic rates are $15 per session or $85 for all seven sessions. The clinic staff will include UMFK college men’s and women’s coaches and players. ORRINGTON — Rocky Knoll Country Club will hold its board of directors meeting at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at the clubhouse, 94 River Road, to discuss the 2014 season. The meeting will be followed by a Christmas potluck supper and a Yankee swap. Meeting topics include a memorial fund, greens care, an adopt a hole program and 2014 goals.

BREWER — Learn to play hockey clinic for adults at 8:30 p.m. every Tuesday, Penobscot Ice Arena. Full equipment required. New players or players who haven’t played in a while and want to get back on the ice are welcome. $15 for an hour of practice followed by a game. DOVER-FOXCROFT — Foxcroft Academy Key Club’s annual Reindeer 5K Run and Walk in conjunction with Dover-Foxcroft Hometown Holiday Celebration at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, at Foxcroft Academy Student Center, east entrance. Registration is noon-12:45 p.m. Participation is by monetary donation or a toy, and will benefit the Community Christmas Project. The FA Key Club is sponsoring a minimum of four children. First male and female will receive $25. Refreshments.

NORTHPORT — Annual Thomas F. Chester Frozen 5K road race will take place during the annual Pen Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce Christmas by the Sea weekend at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at Point Lookout Resort and Conference Center. Racers should check in by 9 a.m. The course will start at the bottom of the mountain and wind through the resort complex to the summit before it heads back to the base of the resort. The first group of entrants will receive a T-shirt. Cost is $10 to walk, $15 to run, and $25 for a family or company team. West Bay Rotary club of Camden is organizing the race, which is in memory of Thomas F. Chester, and will benefit Augie’s Quest which is an ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) charity. NORTHPORT — Dutch Soccer Academy’s indoor soccer program is under way Fridays and Saturdays, at Northport Point Lookout gym, for children ages 3 and up.
