STETSON – Stanley Ray Smith, 73, died Dec. 4, 2013 at a Brewer living center following a long illness. He was born Dec. 2, 1940 in Hanover, N.H., a son of Arthur and Dorothy (Church) Smith.
He graduated from Lebanon High School, Class of 1959. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1962 to 1987, and retired from the Maine State Department of Corrections. Stan loved to hunt and fish.
He is survived by his wife, Annette (LaBelle) Smith of Stetson; four sons, Stanley, Jr., his wife, Tee, and their children, Victoria, Sarah, Jennifer, Deven, and Savanna, all of Holly Springs, N.C.; Charles, his wife Charlotte and their children, Alexis, Hunter, and Zoe of Clarksville, Tenn.; Aaron and wife, Leslie Carrow-Stevens of Pittsfield; Thomas and wife, Tanja, and their children, Alexander and Maja of Bath; three daughters, Barbara and son, Evan of Augusta; Stacy and husband, Kevin Castonguay, and their children, Thomas, Chelsea, and Riley of Stetson; Yvette and husband, Erik Friece of Seattle, Wash.; and a great-granddaughter, Cordelia; two sisters, Wilma and husband, Paul Stearns of Grantham, N.H.; and Rita Barton of Newport, N.H.; as well as his dogs, Bear and Rosie. Stan was predeceased by his brothers, Arthur Jr. and Richard.
A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2014, at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main St., Newport, with the Rev. Vasha Piermont officiating. Those who wish may leave written condolences at www.CrosbyNeal.com
