College roundup: Hotham, Thompson lead UMPI women past UMM

PRESQUE ISLE — Amanda Hotham scored 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds and Kristin Thompson contributed 17 points and six rebounds to help the University of Maine-Presque Isle Owls roll by the UM-Machias Clippers 92-49 in women’s basketball action Wednesday night.

Sydney Churchill added 13 points for UMPI (4-0) and Darby Toth had 10.

Emma LeGallais paced UMM (2-5) with 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Bates 80, Colby 75 (OT)

At Waterville, Meredith Kelly had 12 of her game-high 30 points in overtime as Bates (5-3) prevailed over Colby (3-4) in a non-conference game.

Colby’s Carylanne Wolfington finished with 27 points on 10-for-15 shooting and pulled down six rebounds. Kelly was 10-for-13 from the foul line, added 11 rebounds for a double-double, had a game-high six steals, and added three assists.

Kristin Calvo added 13 points for Bates while Allaina Murphy and Bernadette Connors each put in 10.

Desi Smith contributed 21 points for Colby while Mia Diplock had nine points and eight assists.

UNE 69, E. Nazarene 54

At Quincy, Mass., starting point guard Meghan Gribbin scored a game-high 15 points in just 16 minutes of playing time to lead the University of New England (5-1).

Kelly Coleman and Sadie DiPierro had 11 points apiece for Big Blue. Coleman added six rebounds and three steals. Alicia Brown chipped in eight points and 10 boards, and Alanna Vose scored nine points.

Christina Saint-Pierre had 14 points and 10 rebounds to pace Eastern Nazarene (3-3, 0-1).

Men’s Basketball

E. Nazarene 69, UNE 61

At Quincy, Mass., Eastern Nazarene (6-0) closed the game with a 12-4 run to beat the University of New England (0-6).

Jaylen Owens scored a game-high 21 points for the unbeaten Lions.

Devin Thompson had 17 points to lead the Nor’easters. Kurt Steiner added 12 points while Brayden Morse posted a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
