By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

BERWICK, Maine — Police are on the lookout for a man who tried to coax two young girls into his vehicle with candy Tuesday morning.

The suspect’s red Hyundai approached two fifth graders at different locations in Berwick on Tuesday and offered them both candy, according to MSAD 60 Superintendent Steve Connolly.

One student was approached at a Cedar Lane bus stop and the other at the Knowlton School bus stop. Both replied no, and the man subsequently drove away.

Local police were informed quickly by Knowlton School staff after being informed by the students, Connolly said.

The suspect is described as a white man with a slim build. He is clean shaven and was wearing a black T-shirt and dark pants, and his vehicle’s seat belt restraint has a fuzzy gray protector over it.

Berwick police is leading the investigation, and if anyone sees the suspect, contact Berwick police at 698-1136.
