LINCOLNVILLE, Maine — A 21-year-old Camden man escaped serious injury after he lost control of a pickup truck Friday night and it slammed into a tree.

According to Waldo County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Jeff Trafton, the vehicle caught fire after striking a large pine tree shortly before 7:30 p.m.

Lincolnville resident Steve Young came upon the crash on Route 52 and pulled driver Nicholas Colburn out of the vehicle that caught fire, the chief deputy said. Trafton wasn’t sure whether the vehicle caught fire before or after the driver was pulled out.

Colburn was taken by ambulance to Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast. The injuries did not appear to be serious and Colburn was able to communicate with officers, the chief deputy said.

The crash is considered to be alcohol-related, Trafton said. The chief deputy said Colburn admitted to having a couple of drinks. The sheriff’s office is awaiting results from blood tests taken at the hospital, he said.

No charges have been filed.
