SOUTHWEST HARBOR, Maine — Power was restored to more than 3,300 customers on Mount Desert Island who lost electricity for more than an hour late Monday morning, according to Bangor Hydro Electric Co.

According to the company, power went out around 10:30 a.m. to affected customers, most of whom are located on the western side of MDI, in the Southwest Harbor and Bass Harbor areas. Customers in Bar Harbor and Mount Desert did not lose power in the outage.

Bob Potts, spokesman for Bangor Hydro, said the outage was caused by an equipment failure. Though snow was causing some minor problems inland in eastern Maine on Monday, the weather was not an issue on MDI as temperatures on the island were around 40 degrees Fahrenheit with only a light drizzle for precipitation.

Power was restored to affected customers at around 11:45 a.m., Potts said.
