MEDWAY – Joan R. Furlotte, 75, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, at a Bangor hospital surrounded by friends and family. Joan was born May 1, 1938, in Hollis Center, the daughter of Lucien and Millie (Smith) Roberts.
She spent the first several years of her life in Waterboro then her parents moved to Medway so her father could go to work in the mill.
She was an avid reader and an amazing mother. She had her hands full raising five children. There was never a dull moment. She always had a poodle by her side. She loved people. She was everybody’s best friend. Joan married Gary “Buster” Furlotte in December 1956, and they were always together until his death in 2000.
Joan is survived by her five children; son, Gary and wife, Kristi, of Radcliff, Ky.; daughter, Carol Jones and Corey Campbell of East Millinocket; son, Andrew and wife, Ginga, of Bradford, N.H.; daughter, Ruthanne Amsden and husband, Charles, of Glenburn; daughter, Nancy Couture and husband, David, of Waterville; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Whitten and husband, Thomas, of Sanford; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, Joan was predeceased by a grandchild, Matthew; and her brother, James Roberts.
The family would like to give special thanks to Diane Fiske and her daughter Kelly Coon for all their help.
Friends are invited to visit with the family 11 a.m. – 1p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, at Lamson Funeral Home, 17 Western Ave., East Millinocket, where a funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. with Pastor Ralph Jacobs officiating.
