VASSALBORO, Maine — A man who called police about the discovery of a deceased man last week has been charged with murder, police said.

Courtney Shea, 30, was notified by detectives of the murder charge Monday afternoon, Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said.

Shea is charged in connection with the death of Thomas Namer, 69, of Waterville, McCausland said. Namer’s body was found in Vassalboro around 7 a.m. Friday.

Shea had been arrested by Maine State Police on a probation violation and since has been held at the Kennebec County Jail, McCausland said.

An autopsy revealed Namer died from stab wounds, McCausland said. The two men are familiar with each other.

Shea is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
