Mars Hill woman indicted in $26,000 theft from ATV club

MARS HILL, Maine — A Mars Hill woman arrested last month after allegedly stealing more than $26,000 from a local ATV club over a four-year period is among several people indicted this month by the Aroostook County grand jury.

Candace Giberson, 49, of Mars Hill was indicted on a charge of theft, according to an indictment list released by District Attorney Todd Collins.

Darrell Crandall, chief deputy of the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Department, said at the time of her arrest that Giberson was taken into custody after a lengthy investigation.

According to Crandall, the president of the Big 13 ATV Club in Mars Hill contacted police in late August after noticing financial irregularities. Sheriff’s detectives began a criminal investigation. Giberson, who served as treasurer of the club, is accused of committing the thefts between 2010 and August of this year.

Crandall said that none of the money has been recovered.
