Maine man pinned under tractor dies

NAPLES, Maine — A local man trying to jump-start a car died Saturday after a tractor pulling the car rolled over on him, according to a news release.

Deputies and the Naples Fire Rescue Department went to 24 Mallard Drive around 4 p.m. Saturday after receiving a report that a man was trapped under a tractor, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. Shawn J. Crouch, 31, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to authorities, Crouch was pulling a compact car with the John Deere tractor in an effort to jump-start the car when the accident occurred. Crouch lost control of the tractor and it rolled over, pinning him.

No one else was hurt in the accident.

The incident is being investigated by the state medical examiner’s office and the sheriff’s office.
