WASHINGTON, Maine — A local teenager was seriously injured Sunday afternoon when her car crashed into a tree on Old Country Road, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release Sunday.

A juvenile female from Washington was the lone occupant and driver of a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier that crashed into a tree at approximately 12:50 p.m. Sunday, Chief Deputy Tim Carroll said. She was traveling east when she lost control on a curve and slammed into a tree on the driver’s side of the car. Speed and driver inexperience are believed to be contributing factors. Washington Fire Department had to extricate the girl from the car and Union Ambulance transported her to Maine General Hospital due to serious injuries.
