BENTON, Maine — A pair from Massachusetts were arrested on Friday afternoon after a drug bust on Interstate 95 in Benton, police said.

Jennifer Rubins, 28, and Donna Pina, 40, are both facing charges of aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs and illegal importation of drugs, said Stephen McCausland, Department of Public Safety spokesman.

The duo was pulled over shortly after noon Friday near mile marker 134 for a traffic violation, McCausland said.

Trooper Jesse Duda suspected Rubins and Pina were carrying drugs and asked for assistance from a drug sniffing dog, prompting a response from Somerset County Deputy David Cole and his canine, which detected the presence of contraband.

Seized from the vehicle were 53 grams of heroin, 10 grams of crack, along with marijuana and with $1,395 in cash, McCausland said. The street value of the drugs was over $11,000.

Both suspects are being held at the Somerset County Jail.
