48th BDN Football Forecast goes to tiebreaker

Ten weeks wasn’t enough to determine a staff winner in the 48th Bangor Daily News Football Forecast. Instead, we’re going to overtime.

Ryan McLaughlin of the BDN and inaugural season-long guest Dale Duff finished in a dead heat after picking 200 games this fall. McLaughlin overcame a one-game deficit to Duff in the last week with his 16-4 mark.

Duff, an on-air personality at WEZQ Bangor (92.9 FM The Ticket), couldn’t hold onto his lead as he went 15-5. Both ended the regular season at 156-44, a.780 success rate.

Ernie Clark went 16-4 last week to surge past John Holyoke (14-6) and into third place. Guest Kari DeRosier of Bangor had a solid 14-6 card.

The Forecast staff champion will be determined based on the outcome of one game. Both were asked to pick five games as a tiebreaker but differed on only one.

McLaughlin gives the nod to Oak Hill of Sabattus to beat Dirigo of Dixfield (14-13) for the Western Maine Class D title. Duff picked Dirigo 17-14.

We’ll recap the full staff and guest season standings next week when the winner is crowned.
