CORNVILLE, Maine — A Madison woman had to be extricated from her vehicle and an Embden man was injured after a head-on crash on Tuesday morning.

Ralph Bigelow, 55, of Embden was traveling south on Shadagee Road in his 2011 Subaru stationwagon when he was struck by a 2009 Kia driven by Christina Foisy, 32, of Madison at approximately 10:20 a.m., according to Chief Deputy Dale Lancaster of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department.

“It is being investigated that Christina Foisy was traveling at a high rate of speed, crossed the southbound lane, causing a head-on collision,” Lancaster said in a statement released Wednesday. “Both vehicles were totaled.”

Lancaster said both drivers were wearing seat belts. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, he said.

Both Bigelow and Foisy were transported to Redington Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan with minor injuries. Foisy was later taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where she was listed in good condition on Wednesday afternoon.

A Maine State Police reconstructionist was called in to reconstruct the scene.

The crash is still being investigated, said Lancaster. Results of the investigation will be sent to the Somerset County district attorney’s office.

Cornville and Madison fire departments assisted at the scene as well as Redington EMS.
