BANGOR, Maine — A Fort Fairfield man pleaded guilty Wednesday in U.S. District Court to one count of transportation of child pornography.
By pleading guilty, Christopher Hitchcock, 25, admitted that he sent child pornography between June and December 2010 to another person, not named in court documents.
A sentencing date has not been set.
The girl in one of the images was identified as a real child by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, according to the prosecution version of events to which Hitchcock pleaded guilty. The photographs were taken of her in the Netherlands when she was between 8 and 13 years old.
Hitchcock came to the attention of law enforcement in August 2010 when investigators searched the computer of another person, who is not named in court documents, who sent the Fort Fairfield man child pornography, according to court documents. In May 2011, investigators searched Hitchcock’s computer.
Police found in Hitchcock’s sent mail file, 128 emails with 704 images of child erotica and 2,586 images of child pornography, the prosecution version of events said.
He was indicted by a federal grand jury on Feb. 2 and arrested five days later. Hitchcock has been held without bail since his arrest.
In exchange for Hitchcock’s guilty plea, the U.S. Attorney’s Office dismissed one count each of receipt of child pornography and possession of child pornography.
Hitchcock faces between five and 20 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000. He also could be ordered to pay restitution to the victims in the images if they request it.
