Police investigating Augusta pharmacy robbery

AUGUSTA, Maine — A bearded man wearing a hooded jacket or sweatshirt used a threatening note to get OxyContin pills from the Shaw’s Supermarket Pharmacy Monday afternoon on Western Avenue in Augusta, according to police.

The man was described as being in his mid-20s, weighing between 140 and 165 pounds and sporting a short, scruffy beard, according to a press release issued by Lt. Christopher Massey of the Augusta Police Department. The robbery took place at about 12:30, police said, adding that the man did did not display a weapon when he walked up to the pharmacy counter and handed over the note.

He fled the supermarket on foot and police used a dog to track him to a nearby parking lot, but didn’t find him. Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call the Augusta Police Department at 626-2370. No photo was available Monday afternoon to share with the public.
