Thomaston man seriously injured in Rockland rollover

By Beth Brogan, BDN Staff

ROCKLAND, Maine — A Thomaston man was listed in serious condition Sunday morning at Eastern Maine Medical Center following a single-vehicle crash Saturday night in Rockland.

Colby Miles, 20, was taken by LifeFlight of Maine to EMMC with broken bones and a head injury, Sgt. Ken Smith of the Rockland Police Department said.

At approximately 5:15 p.m. Saturday, Miles was traveling north on Old County Road at a high rate of speed when he hit his brakes hard, swerved into the other lane, lost control of the 2002 Ford Ranger and rolled the truck, Smith said. He added that Miles was not wearing a safety belt and was ejected from the truck.

Rockland EMS took Miles to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport, and he was then flown to EMMC.

Smith said officers presume that Miles swerved to avoid a deer. There was no evidence that alcohol or drugs were involved.

Correction: An earlier version of this story requires correction. Colby Miles is 20 years old, not 23, and officers made the presumption that Miles swerved to avoid a deer, but Miles did not tell officers that.
