ISLAND FALLS – Francis “Smokey” James, 81, died Nov. 4, 2013, in Houlton, surrounded by his wife and daughters. As Dad always said,”Cause of death, he quit breathing.” Smokey is now at rest with his son, John. Smokey was born May 21, 1932, in Princeton, the son of Merton and Viola (Albert) James.
Smokey had fun in his life by hunting, fishing and golfing, but especially enjoyed time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Scraggly Lake, Pleasant Pond, and Florida are places where wonderful memories were made and the stories will be told for generations. Smokey enjoyed owning his own business, James Oil and his friendship with his customers in the Oakfield/Island Falls area.
He is survived by his wife, Donna; and daughters, Debra Dwyer and her husband, Paul, Barbara Barrows and her husband, Paul, Kellie James and Marla. “Pups” or “Papa” was a very special grandfather to, Clayton, Joshua Dwyer and his wife, Audra, and Jessica and her husband, Danny; and great-grandfather to, Daniel, Patrick, Devin, and Elliot. Special thanks to the staff at Madigan Estates for their wonderful care.
