Wells High School $26.85 million construction project bond wins easy approval

WELLS, Maine — Voters in Wells and Ogunquit voted Tuesday to approve a $26.85 million Wells High School construction project.

The Wells High School building project will begin construction in 2014 on 81,000 square feet of new classroom space and 39,000 square feet of renovated space which includes the gymnasium, cafeteria and auditorium.

“We are thrilled, excited, and thankful for the opportunity to provide our high school students with a learning environment that will reflect the Wells and Ogunquit communities’ pride in their accomplishments,” said Superintendent Ellen Schneider. “This facility will help us to meet the needs of our learners now and far into the future. Thank you for the tireless efforts of the school committee, administrators, faculty and staff, the building committee and various sub-committees, and to all the wonderful volunteers.”

In Wells, 1654 people voted yes, 948 no, with 5 blank ballots. In Ogunquit, 220 people voted yes, 173 no, with 2 blank ballots.
