Hammond Lumber crew recognized with safety award

SKOWHEGAN, Maine — Hammond Lumber Co.’s Skowhegan crew was recognized recently for their outstanding safety performance. Together, they have gone three straight years without a recordable injury.

Additionally, they have not had an accident requiring days away from work since 2000.

Bruce Pelletier, Hammond’s safety director, was on hand to help celebrate their achievement. “This safety award is among the most important recognitions that we provide because safety, on and off the job, has always been one of our long-standing goals and priorities.”

Skowhegan manager, Jason Gagnon, also was quick to give credit for the achievement to his conscientious employees. “This dedicated crew of 17 employees, many of whom have been here over 10 years, is understandably proud of their accomplishment. They work as a team with a firm commitment to safety which ultimately contributes to the well-being of our employees, contractors, and customers”.

Employees from the Skowhegan location consistently have contributed to the company’s safety committee which also should be recognized for providing a way for everyone to identify, control and correct hazards in the workplace. Policies on correct safety procedures are discussed as well as safety issues relating to non-work activities, fostering a 24-7 concern for safety.

Besides Skowhegan, Hammond Lumber also operates stores in Auburn, Bangor, Belgrade, Boothbay Harbor, Brunswick, Damariscotta, Fairfield, Farmington, Greenville, Pemaquid and Portland.
