THOMASTON, Maine — The mother of five children will become the town’s newest member to the school board this week, in time for Thursday night’s RSU 13 meeting.

The Thomaston Board of Selectmen voted Oct. 28 to appoint Marla McGeady to the RSU 13 Board to fill the pending vacancy of veteran member Arvilla Collins. Collins announced in August she would be resigning effective Nov. 6 because she and her husband planned to spend winters in Florida.

McGeady said she was interested in filling the position because she has five children, two who have graduated — one as a member of the final class of Georges Valley High School and one in the first graduating class of Oceanside High School East.

She said she moved to Thomaston to be part of small community schools and is concerned about the school district’s direction.

Thomaston has two members on the 12-member board that includes the towns of Rockland, Thomaston, St. George, Owls Head, South Thomaston and Cushing.
