Friendship woman gets 60 days for store thefts

ROCKLAND, Maine — A 24-year-old Friendship woman was sentenced Monday to two years in jail with all but 60 days suspended for stealing items from two different stores within a few weeks of each other.

Samantha R. Perry pleaded guilty in Knox County Superior Court to two counts of felony theft. The charges were felonies because she had prior theft convictions in 2008 and 2009.

The latest charges involve the theft of a snowsuit from Reny’s Department Store in Camden in November 2011 followed by the theft of toys from the Family Dollar Store three weeks later.

Justice Jeffrey Hjelm agreed to let Perry begin serving her sentence next year at the request of her attorney so that she could continue to breastfeed her new baby.
