BATH, Maine — A 27-year-old Bath man convicted twice before for assault was arrested again Sunday after police say he struck a woman in the face seriously enough to send her to a local hospital.
Ryan Elwell remained in Two Bridges Regional Jail on Monday morning, held without bail pending a Nov. 19 appearance in West Bath District Court, Bath Police Lt. Robert Savary said.
Police responded at 1:23 a.m. Sunday to Elwell’s Elm Street apartment after neighbors reported an altercation. Officers found a 34-year-old woman who had suffered facial injuries that were not considered life-threatening, Savary said.
The woman was taken by a Bath rescue crew to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Elwell was charged with domestic violence assault.
He was previously convicted of aggravated assault in 2004, and in 2005 of misdemeanor assault, according to Savary. Those prior convictions elevated the most recent charge to a felony level and led to him being held without bail.
