NEWPORT, Maine — A local woman was arrested Monday morning for allegedly choking a roommate after the two got into an argument, according to police.
Newport and Dexter police as well as a Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department deputy responded to a New Road residence at 1:16 a.m. Monday.
Samantha Morin, 33, of Newport was arrested and charged with Class B aggravated assault, Class D criminal mischief and Class D obstructing government administration for refusing to submit to arrest, according to Newport police Chief Leonard Macdaid.
Morin got into a disagreement with the 49-year-old female victim who lives at the residence after one of the children at the residence woke up crying, said Macdaid.
Morin allegedly grabbed the victim’s hair and throat, choked her and broke windows and dishes in the residence. She was intoxicated, said Macdaid.
She was transported to the Penobscot County Jail in Bangor. Morin faces up 10 years in prison and a maximum fine of $20,000 if convicted of the Class B felony.
