HALLOWELL, Maine — A stabbing at a nightclub on Water Street early Sunday led to one man going to jail and landed two people in the hospital, police said.
Jacob Hitchcock, 26, of Colorado is being held at the Kennebec County Jail on an aggravated assault charge, according to Hallowell police Chief Eric Nason.
The two victims were transported to a local hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening, Nason said. Their conditions were unknown on Monday, he said.
“We’re still working on collecting as much information as we can,” Nason said.
The names of the victims were not disclosed.
After the incident spilled out into the street from the Higher Grounds bar, onlookers managed to get Hitchcock under control before police arrived, Nason explained.
Hitchcock was treated at a local hospital before being brought to jail, where he is being held on $50,000 bail.
The case has been forwarded to the district attorney’s office for review, and a motive for the incident was unclear.
“We’ve been trying to get in touch with [the victims],” Nason said.
