NEW SHARON, Maine — An Oakland man faces charges after crashing his vehicle into a telephone pole and leaving the scene on Route 27 early Friday morning.

Christian Ferguson, 20, was charged with driving to endanger, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and violating conditions of release, Lt. David Rackliffe of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department said.

Police believe the accident on Route 27, also known as Mile Hill Road, occurred about 3 a.m. Friday but was not reported until 4:30 a.m., he said.

When police and members of New Sharon Fire Department arrived at the scene near The Turkey Farm, no one was around the heavily damaged 2009 Subaru Forrester, Rackliffe said.

Police canines were called to search the area. Police later located Ferguson in Smithfield around 7:30 a.m. but were not sure how he got there, he said.

Ferguson received minor injuries in the crash as he traveled south on Route 27. They believe he was alone in the vehicle.

The vehicle, which belonged to Ferguson’s parents, was a totaled in the accident, Rackliffe said.
