ROCKLAND, Maine — A 37-year-old Rockland man was sentenced Wednesday to eight months in jail after admitting to striking another man with a club.

Samuel Sanchez pleaded guilty in Knox County Superior Court to elevated aggravated assault, and violating a condition of release.

Sanchez was arrested on July 28 after Rockland police responded to a call about an assault at the Brunswick Rooms. An affidavit filed by Rockland police after the incident stated that Sanchez struck another resident of the rooming house after the man called him derogatory names related to his Hispanic heritage and to his being a convicted sex offender. Sanchez is listed on the state’s sex offender registry.

The victim suffered a concussion and cuts and bruises to his head, according to the police affidavit.
