BELFAST, Maine — An Augusta man who allegedly chased his wife down on Cedar Street and tackled her this weekend was arrested and charged with domestic violence assault.

Alan F. Green, 43, told police later that he had seen the woman walking down the road with another man on the evening of Saturday, Oct. 26. She told police she tried to run away, but Green caught up and tackled her from behind, according to a report from the Belfast Police Department. She had a swollen hand after the alleged assault.

When the other man tried to intervene, Green punched him in the face, the second man later told police.

Green also was charged with assault for allegedly striking the other man. Green was taken to Waldo County Jail, where he remained in police custody on Tuesday, with his bail set at $250 cash.
