The driver left the truck in neutral and the parking brake was not set, Skowhegan police Chief Ted Blais said on Tuesday. There were no defects found on the vehicle. The Maine State Police concluded its investigation on Tuesday, he said.
Michael Morin, 59, of Oakland died at Redington-Fairview Hospital in Skowhegan after one of the tires on his rig rolled over him, Blais said on Monday.
“It’s just a sad accident. Fortunately, nobody else got hurt,” said Blais.
The truck was hauling a load of logs for a firewood company owned by Morin. He had stopped at the Skowhegan Pizza Hut along Route 201 for lunch, said Blais.
“He was walking in and the truck was in a perfect straight line to the door,” Blais said on Tuesday.
