ARUNDEL, Maine — A Sanford man was killed Saturday night when the BMW in which he was a passenger struck a utility pole in York County, police said.

Bobby Hem, 26, was killed after Brian Roche, 31, of Old Orchard Beach apparently failed to negotiate a curve on the Log Cabin Road, according to Chief Deputy William King of the York County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident, which happened shortly before midnight, left utility wires dangling around the vehicle, the chief deputy said.

Hem, who was ejected from the vehicle, was not wearing a seat belt, King said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Roche suffered injuries not considered life threatening and was taken to Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.

The BMW was demolished in the crash, which State Police are investigating.
