BRUNSWICK, Maine — A 51-year-old Portland man is in custody after police say he attempted to rob the Bank of America branch on Maine Street at 3:20 p.m. Monday.
Raymond D. Leavitt of Portland is charged with Class B attempted robbery, according to a release from the Brunswick Police Department.
Deputy Chief Marc Hagan said at the scene that Leavitt “went in with a note stating it was a robbery.” He said Leavitt did not get any money, and was arrested outside the bank.
Police said Leavitt did not show a weapon during the robbery attempt, but did have knives in his possession when he was taken into custody.
Leavitt was scheduled to be taken to Cumberland County Jail following processing at the Brunswick police station.
There also was an outstanding warrant for his arrest from the Old Orchard Beach Police Department for failure to pay fines. Bail on that warrant was previously set at $3,600 cash, according to police.
