FALMOUTH, Maine — A Maine Turnpike offramp which was scheduled to reopen next month will now be closed until late December due to bridge construction, turnpike officials said.
Construction delays have pushed back the reopening of the Exit 52 southbound offramp, which connects the Turnpike with the Falmouth Spur, according to Maine Turnpike Authority spokesman Dan Morin.
The ramp was shut down in May to complete repairs of the 60-year-old bridge between the ramp and the spur.
Morin said construction crews will need extra time to complete major work, including increasing the bridge’s clearance, repairs to the steel superstructure, partial replacement of the concrete bridge deck under the pavement and replacement of the structure’s railings.
The project should be finished by late December, weather permitting, Morin said. The public is urged to visit www.maineturnpike.com for information on turnpike projects and lane closure reports.
