EAST MILLINOCKET, Maine — They call it the Fire Department’s annual hunters breakfast, but many of the hundreds of people who attend don’t go hunting that day or hunt at all, Fire Capt. Kevin McAdam said Thursday.
“It is a great social event,” said McAdam, one of the event’s organizers. “We’ve been doing it for 50-plus years. One year we didn’t do it and we never heard the end of it. People just love to come to it and kick back and relax.”
Running from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, the annual breakfast is expected to draw as many as 300 people to the town public safety building. It’s the largest annual fundraiser for volunteer firefighters, who supplement the on-call firefighters at town emergencies, McAdam said.
The fundraiser will pay for town fire prevention lessons at local schools, door-to-door smoke detector checks and a scholarship for town junior firefighters, firefighter-EMT Greylen Hale said. The menu includes ham, sausage, eggs, home fries, beans, toast, coffee and juice.
Adults pay $7; children age 15 and under, $5. Firefighters will also raffle several items donated by area businesses. Raffle tickets are $1. Anyone interested in buying tickets or donating items can call 746-3556.
