ROCKLAND, Maine — A 30-year-old Rockport man was arrested Tuesday, accused of assaulting his girlfriend — who was in bed with a broken leg — after she refused to have sex with him.

Jacob A. Crawford was charged with domestic violence assault, criminal mischief, and violating a condition of release.

An affidavit filed in Rockland District Court by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, reported that Crawford came home intoxicated and tried to have sex with the victim who was in bed with a broken leg. She said no and he got mad and began trashing the residence in Rockport, according to the affidavit. He took an ashtray and threw it at the victim, striking her in the leg, above where the break was, the police report stated.

Officers questioned her on how she broke her leg and she initially said she had fallen but declined to detail how the injury occurred.

Bail was initially set at $1,000 cash for Crawford. He made his initial appearance in Rockland District Court Wednesday where bail was denied. He remained at the Knox County Jail in Rockland on Thursday morning.
