KENNEBUNK, Maine — One lucky customer of The Landing Store walked away with a winning lottery ticket worth $25,000 per year for life.

The Maine State Lottery announced Tuesday that the winning ticket for the Lucky for Life drawing held Oct. 21 was sold at the Landing Store. Lucky for Life is drawn every Monday and Thursday evening, and tickets can be purchased at over 1,000 Maine Lottery retailers throughout Maine, according to the Maine State Lottery release.

While the winner has not yet been announced by the Maine Lottery, Dan Breton, owner of the Landing Store, said the woman called the store Wednesday morning, said she just learned her ticket was the winning one and hoped to find out what she should do. Breton said he suggested the woman get in touch with lottery officials in Augusta.

“She watched the news. She thought it was just a one shot $25,000 but asked if it was the $25,000 a year for life, I said ‘That’s what I’m told,’” said Breton, who said he was contacted by lottery officials Tuesday who told him his store had sold the winning ticket. “She was really calm on the phone, really nice. I told her to stop by and say ‘hello.’”

Breton, who has owned the store for three years, said he is unsure if the woman is a regular customer but noted The Landing Store has many regulars. The store sells a fair number of lottery tickets, but he said this is the largest winning he’s seen.

“People have always said your store is due. I guess it is,” Breton said. “It’s very exciting.”
