Youth Basketball Program

BANGOR — Bangor Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registrations for its 2013-2014 Youth Basketball Program. The eight-week program is open to children in grades two through five, with separate leagues for boys and girls.

Teams will practice one evening per week and play games on Saturdays, starting the week

of Dec. 14.

A meet and greet will be held Saturday Dec. 7.

The fee for the program is $35 for Bangor residents and $45 others. Add $10 late fee after Wednesday, Nov. 27. To register go to or stop by the Bangor Parks and Recreation Center at 647 Main St. For information, call 992-4490.


Hockey 101 for women

ORONO — Icing, off-sides, 5-minute major… what are they? For those women who have wondered but were afraid to ask these questions, the Hockey 101 Clinic will be held 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at the Alfond Family Lounge, University of Maine.

The clinic, sponsored by The Friends of Maine Hockey is free and for women only.

UMaine coaches explain the rules of the game with game video and answer questions.

Participants will have the opportunity to dress in the official UMaine Hockey gear, slide a real Stanley Cup ring on their finger, shoot a puck on the mini ice rink and take a behind the scenes tour of the team locker room and training facilities. Door prizes, raffles and light refreshments also will be featured.


Fitness center open house

WINTERPORT — The Maine Fitness and Training Center will hold an open house 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at the facility, 15 Chickadee Lane, off the Boston Road.

Owner and certified personal trainer Jeff Leach will be on hand to answer fitness questions. For information, call 990-4552.
