BELFAST – Donald E. Flanders, 85, died Oct. 17, 2013, at his home in Belfast. Born in Belfast on Oct. 21, 1927, he was the son of Arthur E. and Bertha (Nickerson) Flanders and was a 1950 graduate of Crosby High School.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1948. In Belfast he was employed as a housing inspector for the Farmer’s Home Administration retiring in 1989.
The Flanders family would like to extend their thanks to all of his caregivers including Diana Cook and Louie Murray.
Surviving are his children, Janna L. Swift of Belfast, Steven D. Flanders and his wife, Cheryl, of Ellsworth, Rebecca A. Maddison of Berwick, and Judith Morse and her husband, Harold, of Belmont; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his former wife, Frances Spear Flanders; and several brothers and sisters.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, at Grove Cemetery, Belfast. Memorial gifts may be to Waldo County General Hospital Hospice, P.O. Box 287, Belfast, ME 04915.
