Bangor man taken to hospital, jail after crashing truck into utility pole in Orono

By Nick McCrea, BDN Staff

ORONO, Maine — A Bangor man was taken from a local hospital to Penobscot County Jail after he crashed his truck into a utility pole on Forest Avenue in Orono Saturday night.

The impact broke the pole, and wires fell into the road, shutting it down for much of the night and cutting off power to the area, according to Orono police Sgt. Derek Dinsmore.

A 2006 Toyota Tacoma driven by John Harris, 38, of Bangor, left the road shortly before 7 p.m. and struck the pole. Neither Harris, nor his passenger Kristen Foster, 41, of Bangor suffered serious injuries, according to the sergeant.

Both were treated at local hospitals and released, but Harris was released to the custody of the jail because police say he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

Dinsmore said Harris has been charged with operating after the suspension of his license and operating under the influence of alcohol. Dinsmore said he wasn’t aware of any other charges, but said the crash is still under investigation.
