GRAY, Maine — A Westbrook man was arrested and a Portland man is being sought in connection with an early-morning burglary in Gray, according to police.

Sam Kalmach, 19, is in custody and police will be seeking an arrest warrant for Matthew Kalmach, 21, of Portland, according to Capt. Shawn O’Leary of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

A disturbance was reported shortly after 1 a.m. Wednesday at a residence on the North Raymond Road in Gray, according to O’Leary.

When police arrived, they determined that a 20-year-old man had been assaulted by several suspects outside the residence, the captain said. After the assault, the suspects entered the residence and stole several undisclosed items.

A vehicle that fled the scene was found in Westbrook and it contained Sam Kalmach, one of the alleged suspects, O’Leary said. Stolen property was also found in the vehicle, O’Leary added.

Kalmach was taken into custody without incident and charged with burglary, robbery and aggravated assault, O’Leary said. He is being held on $2,000 cash bail at the Cumberland County Jail.

The whereabouts of Matthew Kalmach were not immediately known.
