By Stephen Betts, BDN Staff

CAMDEN, Maine — A 27-year-old Camden man has been charged with sexually assaulting a girl under 18 earlier this year.

Shane Weed was issued a summons Wednesday by Camden police for unlawful sexual contact and furnishing liquor to a minor, according to Camden Police Detective Curt Andrick. Both are Class D offenses that carry a maximum sentence of up to a year in jail.

The alleged crime occurred in early August during a party, the detective said. The charge resulted from an investigation by the department.

The victim was under 18 years old and lack of consent was an issue in this case, he said.
